At the invitation of Professor François-Xavier Philippe, in charge of the course “Domestic animal ethnography” at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Yves De Clercq took the floor in a seminar held for second-year veterinary students on April 20^th. Mr Philippe had organised a one-afternoon seminar featuring a series of presentations aimed at bringing the students together with experienced stakeholders committed to safeguarding and promoting breeds.

The seminar was attended by some 60 students, whom Yves De Clercq, the Executive Director of the FCI, gave a presentation packed with useful information about the FCI:

• organisation (shows, trials, kennel names registration, etc.)
• operating framework (sections, General Assembly, General Committee, Executive Committee, commissions, General Secretariat, etc.)
• procedure for breed recognition (on a provisional basis, on a definitive basis, application file, etc.)
• breed standards

Mr Philippe moderated the ensuing exchange of interesting views. The students were curious about the available documentation, too.
